If you run BetterFloat on Skinport, you've probably noticed that our references prices went missing. Skinport changed their policy, so we had to change with it.
What changed
The new policy in a nutshell: an extension running on Skinport can't point you toward another marketplace in any form — no outbound links, no competitor names, no logos.
Anything that points to another marketplace:
CSFloatThat reference price is just as customizable as before. Pick the source market, choose whether it tracks the buy order or the lowest listing, and set it once in the extension popup.
Why this happened
It comes down to fairness and traffic. Here's how Skinport explained it to us:
A button that leads from a Skinport listing straight to a competitor is not in the interest of the customer or of Skinport.
Traffic flowed one way
The comparison sent shoppers away from Skinport, with little coming back in return.
Snapshots can mislead
A raw price often looks cheaper than it is until you factor in the payment fees some markets add at checkout.
We don't agree on every detail, but the core point is: it's their platform and their call. Skinport decides what runs on top of their market, and we respect that.
Where we stand
We believe a trader should get to see the numbers and pick where they buy. Complicating access to such information is not the way to go. But we also rely on good relationships with markets we support, and we want BetterFloat to be a welcome guest on every site it touches.
Nothing else changes. Every other marketplace we support works exactly as before — and on Skinport, the overlays, float data, and your reference price all keep running.
We understand this might not be what you wanted to hear, and that's fair. If you've got thoughts or questions, let's chat about it:
